Used stair lifts

If purchasing a brand new stair lift is out of the budget for you, it’s perfectly fine to get a used stair lift. A used stair lift can seem like brand new, as long as the stair lift is made of high quality materials and produced by a reputable company. Another important point to take into consideration when buying used stair lifts is the length of time the previous owner has been using the stair lift - if it’s been used for more than 5-8 years, keep looking - while the level of wear and tear on most stair lifts is relatively low, you don’t want to take the chance.

There are many different types and models of stair lifts in the market so you might get a little confused when shopping for a used one. The more complex the design of the used stair lift, the more it will cost you to install it into your home. Usually, the curved stair lifts will cost quite a bit to install, so, what you should always do is to get someone to come survey your place PRIOR to order. Just let the previous owner know that you’re interested in purchasing the used stair lift from them and ask them to give you a couple of days to get a contractor to come and evaluate your home. Since the used stair lift is already constructed, there’s no waiting time for it to be built and delivered, but you may have to discuss with the previous owner about taking the stair lift out if it is still being used.

Wear and tear on a used stair lift can be determined by looking at the drive. There are basically four types of drives available in the market – namely, cable, chain, screw and Rack & Ribbon type. The most common type of drive is the cable type and if the used stair lift you have your eyes on has this type of drive, you should do just fine. Just bear in mind that some consumers say that cable drive systems are extremely jerky and unstable – but like I mentioned earlier, it depends on the make and model of the stair lift. If the used stair lift is from a reputable manufacturer, you’re safe.

Don’t rush when buying stair lifts – this is an important decision, so, take your time checking prices and checking the condition of the used stair lift before you buy. This concerns the safety of the person using the used stair lift – so, leave no stone unturned !
